The Choices She Made
In 1997, seventeen-year-old Madeline Williams is torn between continuing her family ranching legacy and accepting her Army-bound boyfriend’s marriage proposal.
But when an assault by John David Billings, the son of a wealthy rancher, leaves her pregnant, Madeline sacrifices both options, choosing to leave town and raise the child alone.
It’s been several years, and when she returns to her hometown to meet with her father, rumors circulate about John David’s trial–for assaulting other women. Madeline struggles with the secret she’s kept from her daughter–and everyone but her father–all of these years.
If she testifies, John David could be put away for good. Doesn’t help that he’s hired a killer lawyer, and it would take a testimony like hers just to put him behind bars. But if she unveils her past, that could have some dangerous repercussions for her daughter.
She has trusted God throughout her entire life, but can she trust him to carry her through this trial?
- There is something to be said for the tenacity of an up and coming author. Felicia Ferguson has that tenacity in her book, The Choices She Made. As we follow Madeline through her story we find well-written plots, beautiful description, and yummy adventure. Ferguson takes the reader on a well-penned story and when it ends, you wish it hadn't. I completely loved it. Satisfying. Enjoyable. A must read. Cindy Sproles, bestselling, award winning author of What Momma Left Behind
- We all have to make difficult choices in life, and in Felicia Ferguson’s debut novel The Choices She Made, Madeline Williams goes from an innocent teenager to a ruined girl who’s afraid of the powerful family of the boy who attacked her. But her widowed father stands by her, no matter what she decides, and this unconditional love helps her to make the hardest decision ever. After giving up the boy she loved and the life she’d planned, Madeline, now a single mom, has a teenaged daughter who wants answers. When they return to Blue Springs, Texas, for the summer, the past comes back to haunt Madeline. The very boy who assaulted her, now a divorced man, has to answer to charges brought by several other women. Madeline tells her daughter the truth, and again has to make a difficult decision. Will she step forward and share her secret with the world, or will she keep quiet to protect the child she loves? A touching story that mirrors today’s headlines and focuses on the agony of women having to deal with horrible memories and tough decisions. It moved me more than I can ever say. A story that will touch your heart and strengthen your faith. Lenora Worth, author of Seeking Refuge

In The Choices She Made, Felicia Ferguson weaves a compelling story about a teenager’s life-altering choice affecting not only her life path, but the very existence and well-being of her daughter …Alice H. - Nothing is sugar-coated here. And everything is complicated. There are no easy choices, even for Christians. Decisions are made only after much wrestling. And still, there are far-reaching consequences whichever way it goes.Laura DeNooyer, Standout Stories blog
- I absolutely loved it! Your characters touched my heart and made me think. D. Crittenden via Twitter
- This book really surprised me. Wow. I cried while reading in several places as it does deal with some difficult subjects but it is filled with biblical truths and scriptures. God did not give us a spirit of fear. He has a plan for us. The Lord works everything out for our good. Loved how much faith was in this story and how impactful it was for me.Amanda, Book Lover Amanda blog
