Here in Colorado, we’ve had an incredible cold snap. From the 50s down into the negatives in a matter of hours. The best thing to do right now is to make sure we’re bundled up against the cold. But did you know that as believers, we are bundled up next to Jesus?
John 12:32 in the New Living Translation says, “And when I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw everyone to myself.” Another way to say that statement according to the Passion translation is, “I will bundle everyone/everything next to me.”
Isn’t that a lovely image? Can you picture it, being bundled up next to Jesus? When I think about it, I see myself snuggled on an outdoor loveseat, cozy blanket covering my lap, Jesus next to me, his arm around me, my head on his shoulder. A cup of hot chocolate in hand, fire pit blazing. We’re looking up at the stars and talking about the creation of the world. Jesus and me. Bundled together.
What about you? Can you picture yourself bundled up with Jesus? If not, why not? What is keeping you at arm’s length? Do you feel unworthy of that close of a connection? Or do you believe Jesus can’t be that that close because he’s the savior of the world. And the world needs him more than you do?
If you answered yes to either of those questions—or have an altogether different reason—I encourage you to sit for a moment, close your eyes, and ask Jesus to show you where he is in your life. Ask if he really can be that close to you. If you can be bundled next to him.
I think you might be surprised by his answer. Even if we don’t realize it, we are all already bundled to him because as he rose and broke Satan’s grip on this world, he was lifted up and he did draw everyone to himself. So release your insecurities, your doubts and lean into his embrace. Be bundled into his side. And savor the sweet time of fellowship with the one who loves you perfectly.
