Are you sowing to self or to spirit? Let's embark on spiritual disciplines.
This is Felicia Ferguson with Christian Mix 106, helping you build faith for the journey.
Are you sowing to the flesh or sowing to the spirit? The apostle Paul writes we must be transformed by the renewing of our minds. But how do we do that? Is it by sheer force of will and determining that we will change or is there something more that we need to do or at least be open to? Richard Foster in Celebration of Discipline argues no amount of willpower will change our hearts. Even if we make every effort to change, we can’t be relied on to make that happen on our own—how’s that New Year’s resolution going? What we need is spiritual discipline to make lasting changes in our spiritual growth and depth. These can only come through partnering with Jesus and following proven biblical strategies. Over the next several weeks, we’ll talk about each one. They’ll all be posted on my website if you miss a week. Foster’s recommended spiritual disciplines are these: meditation, prayer, fasting, study, simplicity, solitude, submission, service, confession to others, worship, guidance, celebration.
And you don’t have to be a monk or nun to practice them, merely be a disciple of Jesus who desires to grow in his or her relationship with the creator of your soul. So, are you ready to dive deeper into your walk with Jesus? To develop an unshakeable faith that though the mountains be moved and the earth tremble you will stand strong? To create a rich and life-giving relationship that allows you to pour out to others but not be drained in the pouring? Then join me as we start with meditation next week.
This is Felicia Ferguson, thanks for listening to Christian Mix 106.
