Summary

This is Felicia Ferguson with Christian Mix 106, helping you build faith for the journey,

I’m a Kentucky girl, and every Kentuckian worth their salt knows what the first Saturday in May means. It’s fastest two minutes in racing, the run for the roses, the Kentucky Derby. A field of thoroughbred colts and fillies sprint ten furloughs or one and a quarter mile in the first leg of the Triple Crown. Even though the distance is short, the race has been run the longest in the US, beginning in 1875.

Over the years, there have been horses who were scratched. Horses that stumbled. Ones who ran from gate to wire always in the lead. Ones who came from behind to win. Favorites who lost by a nose or flagged in the turn for home.

It got me to thinking about our own race as believers. Paul says we are to run the race set before us and that at the end of his life he had finished the race and won the prize. And like the crowds at the Kentucky Derby, we have a great cloud of witnesses cheering us on to our finishes.

So how is your race going? Are you in the home stretch and looking toward your own winner’s circle and rose garland? Have you just launched from the gate as a new believer, filled with vim and vigor and ready to take on Satan with your bare hands? Are you in the first turn, feeling the burn of trials on your faith? Or are you in the last turn, fighting with everything in you to keep the faith and pushing through?

Wherever you are, you are one of a field of racers, each in their own lane. But no one’s race is the same, even though we are running on the same track. As you look around though, seeing your place in the field compared to someone else’s can make you stumble, lose your footing, or even get you off track. Always remember on this believer’s race, as long as you hold fast to your confession of faith, you will win, even if it’s only by a nose.
