This is Felicia Ferguson with Christian Mix 106, helping you build faith for the journey.

When you look in a mirror, what do you see? A nose that’s too big? Deepening crows feet around your eyes? Teeth that are darker than a piece of tissue?

Me? I see a face that seems to get rounder every year. Eyes that are squintier. Hair that is grayer at the temples. And a neck that sags and creases more than it used to.

But what if, when we looked in the mirror, we first and foremost saw Jesus? In the light in our eyes. In the joy in our smiles. In the wisdom gained with those wrinkles and graying hairs. And as the years passed, what if we saw him more than ourselves?

That’s what the apostle Paul says we are to do. In his second letter to the Corinthian church, he said the more we look at and follow Jesus, the more we are transformed into him by his glory. So when we look at ourselves, we shouldn’t look first at our outward appearance and judge its failings. But look for and find Jesus. And every day, we should see him more and more. This process of sanctification is a result of our daily walk with Jesus.

Sanctification is a church word for transformation. It is growing in our faith and becoming more like Jesus. And if we commit to that process and make it a priority in our lives, one day when we look in the mirror, our faces will fully reflect the light, life, and love of Jesus. To ourselves and others.
