This is Felicia Ferguson with Christian Mix 106 helping you build faith for the journey.

Hold fast. That was my word for 2021 and dang if it wasn’t a doozy. That year, I received my first book contract with a traditional publisher—a dream come true and a prayer answered. But in that same year, I lost my day job and my father died. One a surprise and the other expected, but both heartbreaking. These and so many other things changed in my life that year. I rode such a roller coaster of delights and despairs. In the downturns, my faith grew and deepened. At the highest peaks, my joy and delight were greater than I’d ever known. But through them all, I was tremendously grateful for God’s direction to hold fast to him during that turbulent time.

What do you do when you’re faced with the valleys and the mountaintops in your life? Do you push through the dark times by sheer force of will, gritting your teeth and singing along with Gloria Gaynor that you will survive? And what about those times when you’re on top of the mountain? Do you shout about your victories and triumphs saying you did it your way? Or, like me, do you recognize in both seasons that someone is holding out his hand and encouraging you to hold fast to him? Do you reach for that hand and instead ask God, abide with me?

When we hold onto Jesus’ hand, we have a partner with us in the joy and the pain. Someone who understands both because he experienced both as a human. No, it’s not the same as holding another human’s hand. It’s actually better. Because Jesus will never let your hand go. He will always be there in both the sorrows and the joys. We just need to remember to hold fast.

This is Felicia Ferguson. Thanks for listening to Christian Mix 106.
