This is Felicia Ferguson with Christian Mix 106, helping you Build Faith for the Journey.

The phone rings. You don’t recognize the number but something tells you to answer anyway. And the caller gives you life crushing news. Maybe as gently as they can. Maybe it’s brusque reality. But the delivery doesn’t matter in the end. The result is the same. Life as you knew it is done.

What do you do next? Cry, scream, maybe even faint. But what if there was another response? What if you closed your eyes, reached your heart to heaven, and with tears streaming down your face, said, I trust you, God. No matter what.

Like you, I’ve been there. Staring at the wreckage and wondering what do I do? What happens now? I too have cried. I have screamed. Thankfully, I’ve never fainted. But I’ve also taken the other route. I have chosen in the middle of my devastation to trust that God is still good. That he still has good plans. That he can make even this situation work for good. Does that sound overly pious, holier than thou, or pie in the sky? Maybe. But it also is a testimony of the faith we profess as believers. Job, in the middle of his devastation, reached the point where he asked, do I trust God is good only when my life is good? Or do I also trust he’s good when my world is falling apart?

It may be the hardest thing we’ve ever done in our lives. But I think it’s also one of the most important. Because in choosing to trust God in the devastation, we experience possibly the highest form of worship. A true sacrifice of praise. Because let’s face it, standing in church on a Sunday during worship is wonderful, it’s fulfilling, it’s energizing, but it’s not a sacrifice. It doesn’t cost us anything. It doesn’t hurt. It rarely brings us to our knees, desperately seeking solace by clinging to the only stable thing in our lives, Jesus himself.

So when that phone call comes, will you choose to worship God and trust him in the midst of your pain? Will you offer this incredible sacrifice of praise? Make the decision now before the fog of emotion clouds your thinking and reaction. Trust that he is good in the good times and in the bad and say it aloud. Then when your world is shaken, faith and praise will mix with the shock and the tears. And even though your life may still never be the same, you will feel the security of knowing who is holding it all in the palm of his hand.

I’m Felicia Ferguson, thanks for listening to Christian Mix 106.
