What do you do when you have to wait a little longer?

I was sure this was it. After decades of waiting, of praying, of hoping, I knew this move was the open door and with it my heart’s desire would finally be fulfilled. Because hadn’t I delighted myself in the Lord? Hadn’t I healed and grown? Hadn’t I waited long enough?
And yet all the words that now came were not, it’s time, you’re seeing the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living, reap what you have sown.
No, what I heard was you’re being prepared.
Really, Lord? Still? Again? When will it finally be time? Next year? Ten more years? Even twenty? As the tears rolled down my cheeks, I allowed myself to feel the frustration of a hope deferred a little longer. Feel the disappointment that it’s still not the right time. I’ll be completely honest. It hurts. Big time.
But even in the hurt, frustration, and disappointment, I have to trust that God knows what he’s doing. That if I have to wait a little longer, prepare a little more, it’s for a good reason. Because he said it himself, “When the time is right, I the Lord will make it happen.”
So I have to believe him.
And as I continue to wait, continue to prepare. I’ll listen, I’ll pray, I’ll go about my day doing what he gives me to do in the moment. Knowing he will use everything later. And one day, the timing will be right. My hope will no longer be deferred. My heart’s desire will be fulfilled. Because he is faithful to keep his promises to his children.
